Once a mighty power in the Mediterranean, Amalfi has turned into a dreamy Italian seaside resort. With its pastel colored buildings set against the backdrop of mighty Monte Cerreto, Amalfi is the center of the Amalfi Coast, one of the most spectacular coastal stretches in Italy.

As Amalfi has a tiny port, ships anchor out at sea and passengers are ferried ashore by tender. As the town comes closer, the campanile of the Convent of Capuccini is easily recognizable.

Apart from being a historic town with a dateline that stretches back centuries, Amalfi is also a very popular seaside resort with a fine - if not somewhat crowded - sandy beach.

Amalfi is known for its limoncello liqueur hand-crafted paper. The town is best enjoyed in the Italian way - easygoing, with a little coffee break on a terrace in between the shopping sprees.

The Sant' Andrea Cathedral is famous for its elaborate decorations in typical Amalfi style.

Whatever you do, don't miss the sailaway from Amalfi. As your ship makes its way along the spectacular coast, you will realize what an effort it must have been to make this region accessible. With houses perched high on the massive cliffs, this is the epitome of Mediterranean cruising.
