Monte Carlo
Monaco
Monaco is one of those countries that has an intriguing ring to it. Monte Carlo is the largest community in this tiny principality on the Mediterranean Sea, ruled by a Prince in a pinkish palace. At first glance, the high-rises and chaotic traffic situation are not what you'd expect in this millionaire's playground. But at closer look you will discover a more elegant side to Monaco. The Prince's Palace in Monaco-Ville is just a stroll (and a climb) away from the cruise ship dock. Surrounded by narrow cobblestone streets this is the historic part of the Principality. Be sure to visit the beautiful Saint Nicholas Cathedral to pay your respect to Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. Then stroll through the magnificent Jardin Exotique with its palm trees and sculptures. Highlight for many is a visit to the Monte Carlo Casino. But to me, the real thrill of Monaco is the fact that this stamp-sized piece of land is in fact ... a real country!
