Constellation
arrives at the Port of Amsterdam on September 11, 2005 as part of her
transatlantic positioning voyage. Leaving the dense fog behind, we
enter a different world once we set foot in the awe-inspiring Grand Foyer with
its stately onyx staircase. Welcome on board!
|
|
|
|
Constellation's Grand Foyer has
no soaring heights, no palm trees, no glass ceilings. Instead,
the design firm of Scott Butler has managed to create a soothing and utterly elegant space to anchor the three decks that hold the majority of the public rooms.
From the Guest Relations Desk on Plaza Deck a beautiful backlit onyx grand staircase leads up to Promenade Deck. This is definitely the place for these formal portrait sessions! On the port side directly adjoining the Grand Foyer is that other Millennium-class gadget: elevators
with sea views. An eight-deck high glass wall rises all the way up to Sunrise
Deck, with six elevators zooming up and down at high speed, providing beautiful
vistas of sea and land. |

|
Apart from
looking very elegant, the Grand Foyer also serves a more practical purpose. Here you will find the 24-hour Guest Relations Desk, a
beautiful Shore Excursion center and window-walled
Internet Café. One deck lower, on Plaza
Deck a gorgeous
passageway with
oversized portholes leads to the aft stairwell, passing by
the three-room Conference Center and Cinema. In true ocean
liner tradition, Celebrity Cruises still have a
dedicated cinema for afternoon and evening showings of
recent movies. The conference rooms also serve as card and
lecture rooms as part of the line's recently introduced
Celebrity Discoveries, a program of onboard lectures and
bridge classes. |
