Prinsendam Baltic Cruise - Top Decks

The sun always shines on the glossy pages of most cruise brochures. If you choose to spend your cruise vacation in northern latitudes, the weather can be a little different than the cruise lines would like you to believe. With that in mind we brought umbrellas. And some warm clothes. But I guess in this case the brochure got it right all the time. During our cruise, the sun comes out on the second day and despite an overcast sky and a few rain showers in St. Petersburg, it doesn't leave us until ten days later.

There is no better way to celebrate the start of another beautiful day than by having breakfast outside on the Lido Restaurant's aft terrace. As the morning progresses, we read a book on any of the old-fashioned steamer chairs on Prinsendam's beautiful wrap-around teak Promenade Deck before we head up to the Sports Deck for coffee in the Crow's Nest Bar. This fine room can only be reached by means of a long corridor lined with artifacts collected during the vessel's many globe-trotting voyages. Being the most remotely located of all of Prinsendam's public rooms, the Crow's Nest attracts a distinct audience. At night, with the lights low and flickering candles on each table, the Crow's Nest is an elegant late-night spot. During the day the Crow's Nest serves the "Lookout Crowd", people that want to look out without smelling the fresh air.

The main Lido Deck is located on deck 11. Instead of a decent sized swimming pool, the vessel's original designers thought it would be nice to create a "wet recreation area", comprising of a tiny dipping pool, a (truly) wet bar and one Jacuzzi, encircled by an oversized wading area. If you like to "hang out" in the water, soak up some rays, grab a snack from the Terrace Grill and a beer from the Lido Bar, this is your place. If you instead you are a Fitness Freak, Beauty Addict or Swim-a-Holic, by all means move aft on Upper Promenade Deck and enter The Greenhouse Spa. Even though the beauty treatments are overpriced, they are extremely popular so don't forget to make reservations early in the cruise to avoid disappointment. Use of the sauna, steam room and the beautiful lap pool with Jacuzzi outside are free of charge.
