Time to discover what our cabins look like! VCK-Zeereizen obviously must be doing something right for NCL, because both Elisa and I are allocated a S1 Superior Deluxe Suite with private balcony on Fjord Deck! Cabin 9220 comes equipped with all the amenities one could wish. There’s a double bed that can be ripped apart to form two twin beds, a small sofa that conveniently folds out to a third bed, a desk with chair, glass-topped coffee table and ample closet space. The balcony is equipped with two chairs and a small table.

There’s no room for anything remotely looking like a lounge chair. Personally I think the term "Superior Deluxe Suite" is a little over the top for a cabin that is basically a regular outside cabin with the added bonus of a private balcony and concierge service. Oh, and let's not forget the NCL bathrobe!

Seriously, I thought the standard outside cabins (and inside cabins for that matter) were just as good, if you can live without a balcony for a week. The cabin corridors on each deck have their own color, and that is followed through in the cabins. So there are green cabins, pink cabins, and blue cabins. The outside ones have a huge round porthole; the S1 "suites" have a somewhat smaller porthole and a glass door (not a sliding door).

Can I have a word with you about the bathrooms? I need just one word: SMALL. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, you should opt for one of the Penthouse Suites. These come with gorgeous teak balconies facing the bow of the ship, are decorated in a very elegant way with lots of wood and brass, and come with a magnificent marble bathroom with separate bathtub and shower stall. Or why not choose one of the four Owner’s Suites, which are even bigger and have a jacuzzi bath placed on the balcony!
