Nowhere is
Saga Ruby's
heritage more apparent than on
Veranda Deck. With its high ceilings, large dance floors,
curved grand staircases and walls of glass, the design team
that revamped
Saga Ruby
in 2005 has managed to
retain the
vessel's original ocean liner features and add a
modern' boutique hotel' feeling to it. The result is
downright stunning, making
Saga Ruby
a beautiful 'modern classic' cruise ship.

All the
way forward is the semi-circular Britannia Lounge. Done in
a gorgeous burgundy and gray color scheme, the designers
have made the most of the natural light that streams into
this room. The Britannia Lounge is arguably one of the most elegant on board, closely
followed by the adjacent South Cape Bar on port
side; the ultimate before and after dinner
watering hole. |

On starboard
side is the wonderful Library and card room. Colorful carpets in
burgundy and purple, comfortable seating areas and fine sea
views make this a very popular place. Sandwiched between the
South Cape Bar and Library is the wood-paneled amidships
stairwell and large Theatre, an old-fashioned cinema with
gently sloping floor.

Further
aft, heavy draperies give way to the largest public room on
board, the aptly named Ballroom. With its huge
rectangular wooden dance floor and high ceiling, this is
where 'Dancing with the stars' goes to sea. The
decor is a bit dull though and could do with some more
color and variation in furniture. But one good thing: most
of Saga Ruby's guests can be accommodated here.
