She is a true floating city. A happy marriage of seagoing
resort, shopping mall, sports arena and entertainment
center. She is too large to pass through the Panama Canal.
She is
Adventure of the Seas!
Only months after the 9/11 incident, Royal Caribbean's third mega-sized cruise ship
proudly sailed into New York and was christened by fire
fighters before setting sail to
San Juan, Puerto Rico where she arrived at 9:00 am on Saturday,
November 17th, 2001. On the next day, only hours before the
ship set off on her very first 7-day Southern Caribbean
cruise, I visited
Adventure of the Seas
in San Juan.

Built in
Turku, Finland by Kvaerner Masa-Yards, Adventure of the
Seas
is third in a series of five; the middle child so to
speak... With a gross tonnage of 137,308, a length of 1,020 ft
(311 m) and a beam of 157,5 ft (47,4 m) Adventure and her
sisters are far
too large to sail through the Panama Canal and indeed they are
true floating cities with their indoor Promenades, ice skating
rinks, wedding chapels and rock climbing walls.

On Sunday,
November 18th, 2001, just a couple of hours before the ship was to
set sail on her official maiden voyage, I was welcomed on board
Adventure of the Seas in San Juan and was able to spend
some time discovering everything that this magnificent vessel
has to offer. Let me take you on the exact same route that we
took - crisscrossing from one deck to the other. So now, sit back, relax
and enjoy you virtual visit to the spectacular Adventure of
the Seas. |
