Let's move up one deck. On deck 4 we continue our
voyage of discovery in the aft Centrum. Here you will find the
unique Aquarium Bar, featuring two huge floor-to-ceiling aquariums full of
tropical fish. A cozy, low bar serves up the best daiquiris
this side of the Royal Promenade, while guests wanting a little privacy can sit in the
small "grotto" on the port side. Done in greens and reds, the
atmosphere is both casual and elegant, which makes the
Aquarium Bar the perfect place to watch hopeful gamblers enter
the casino next door. And see them leave again... |

Enter the
Casino Royale Hollywood! This is without doubt one of the loudest, brightest and
funniest casinos I have ever seen! The entrance alone is an
attack on the senses, filled to the brim with glitter and
glamour, it features a see-through section in the floor packed
with all sorts of Hollywood memorabilia. The room is full of
mannequins, from popcorn sellers to life-size Fred & Ginger
look-alikes in full swing. The music is definitely Hollywood
swing, and the result is downright magical.

If you
are looking for a nautical feel, nautical smell and
nautical view from oversized portholes, this is the place
to go for a drink. At night, with the guitar melodies of
Daniel Hull, this is perhaps the most laid-back of all
bars on board, but I do think the Schooner Bar suffers
somewhat in atmosphere, mostly because of the room's
awkward layout. |

On we go
to Jester's - the
neighboring dance club. On previous Royal Caribbean ships, the disco could
always be found in the Viking Crown Lounge, but on the
Voyager-class vessels night owls make their way to deck
5 - and it does make some sense to bring the two late night
spots (casino and disco) close together. The design team has
gone all out when designing Jester's, and have probably
watched many episodes of the Addams Family in the process!
Picture a
Gothic room, complete with hideaway alcoves, heavy drapes
and weird stained glass murals. Jesters is a unique
discotheque, with a wonderful layout that servers both
"drinkers" and "dancers". |

Further forward on deck 5 is one of my favorite
public rooms on Adventure of the Seas. The five-deck high
Lyric Theater is the ship's main show lounge and can hold an
astonishing 1,366 passengers. Which means this theater
is almost twice as large as the on in my hometown.! The
designers had to cope with the limitations of constructing
such a giant space on a moving ship but have succeeded
admirably. The result is nothing short of sensational - a full-scale Broadway theater
at sea.
You enter The Lyric by means of an intriguing combination
of sweeping staircases directly from the Royal Promenade. |

A set of
double glass doors give way to a spacious foyer, with bar
counter on one side and a grand staircase that leads to the
upper level of the theater on the other side. Restrooms are
provided in the theater, as are two more bar counters. The
sheer size of the room can best be seen on the lower level,
with row after row of comfortable theater-style seating. Both
here and on the balcony level, seating is staggered and it is
quite unbelievable that the design is such that there are
hardly any obstructed views. Decorated in a French Art Nouveau
theme (have a look at the carpeting), colors are predominantly
purple, gold and green and the result is breathtaking.
During a
typical week on board, passengers will be able to attend two
full-scale production shows at The Lyric. |
