On our virtual roundtrip across the world, we go down south to the White Continent this week. Thildi Klootwijk sent in this great shot of Hurtigruten's Fram
at Paradise Bay, Antarctica on February 20. Fram was custom-designed for cruising in polar regions and divides her time between Antarctica and Greenland.
This involves two very long positioning voyages that basically send this tiny but sturdy vessel halfway across the globe each spring and autumn.
More photos of Fram, including 24 interior shots can be found in the Ship Alphabet. For a first-hand account
of the vessel's expeditions, check out Fram's weblog. |
